Weekly Mileage and CTL Increased Again

FOUNDATION 1.3 REPORT (11/03 – 11/09)

HIGHLIGHTS: As noted last week, both my weekly mileage and Chronic Training Load (CTL) were expected to increase significantly this week when I logged the first of the twice monthly rehearsal rides leading up to the triple inaugural Guinness Ultracycling World Record attempts in April 2026. I completed workouts on Saturday of 1 hour 45 minutes (26.88 miles) and Sunday of 1 hour 28 minutes (22.66 miles). Total weekly mileage exceeded 100 miles for the first time since mid-August last year. As a result, my CTL increased by 3 points from 31 last week to 34 this week.

Next weekend, I’m already scheduled for a recovery week that ends with a 2 hour 15 minute foundation miles workout on Sunday. We are compressing the typical training cycle from four weeks to three weeks. That means two weeks of increasing intensity and endurance work with a third recovery week that finishes with a rehearsal ride of increasing duration.

All indoor cycling sessions were completed with my recumbent trike on a Kinetic by Kurt Road Machine smart trainer + Rouvy application. Two of three strength resistance workouts were completed.

  • Monday’s Recovery – Endurance Blend Mixed workout was 16.16 miles in 1:04:00. Average speed was 15.2 mph; maximum speed was 17.2 mph. Average power was 84 watts; maximum power was 138 watts. A 30-minute strength machine resistance workout was completed.
  • Tuesday’s Sweet Spot Tempo Intervals (4 x 5/4 minutes) workout was 14.47 miles in 0:56:00. Average speed was 15.5 mph; maximum speed was 17.9 mph. Average power was 90 watts; maximum power was 154 watts.
  • Wednesday’s Foundation Miles Intervals (4 x 10/4 minutes) workout was 19.66 miles in 1:19:43. Average speed was 14.9 mph; maximum speed was 17.2 mph. Average power was 81 watts; maximum power was 131 watts. A 30-minute strength machine resistance workout was completed.
  • Thursday was a rest day off the bike.
  • Friday’s Aerobic Tempo Intervals (5 x 6/3 minutes) workout was 18.27 miles in 1:10:42. Average speed was 15.7 mph; maximum speed was 17.5 mph. Average power was 91 watts; maximum power was 133 watts. A 30-minute strength machine resistance workout was cancelled.
  • Saturday’s Foundation Miles workout was 26.88 miles in 1:46:00. Average speed was 15.4 mph; maximum speed was 29.2 mph. Average power was 88 watts; maximum power was 111 watts.
  • Sunday’s Endurance Miles workout was 22.66 miles in 1:28:52. Average speed was 15.5 mph; maximum speed was 29.4 mph. Average power was 90 watts; maximum power was 140 watts.
