Exceeded Expectations with Virtual TT #1 Result
RACE WEEK 26.1 REPORT (04/06 – 04/12)
HIGHLIGHTS: Last week, I wrote that I didn’t think that I would be able to match the 18.5 mph average from my second speed test on a flat velodrome course a month ago. The fact that the virtual Maple Park course featured 157 feet of elevation gain dampened my expectations. I was wrong.
I exceeded my expectations for a 0:33:36 (16.5 mph average) baseline effort. I finished with a time of 0:29:51 (18.6 mph average). This will be my baseline for the next four times that I race this course this season.
All indoor cycling sessions were completed with my recumbent trike on a Kinetic by Kurt Road Machine smart trainer + Rouvy application. One strength resistance and one standing abdominal workouts were completed.
DETAILS:
- Monday was a rest day off the bike.
- Tuesday’s 3-Step Accelerations Intervals (3 x 3/2/1 minutes) workout was 17.62 miles in 1:08:24. Average speed was 15.5 mph; maximum speed was 19.3 mph. Average power was 94 watts; maximum power was 167 watts.
- Wednesday’s Recovery – Endurance Blend workout was 14.55 miles in 1:01:00. Average speed was 14.3 mph; maximum speed was 16.9 mph. Average power was 73 watts; maximum power was 102 watts. A 30-minute strength machine resistance workout, 15-minute standing abdominal strength workout, and a floor climbing effort were completed.
- Thursday’s Aerobic Tempo/Sweet Spot Blend workout was 22.86 miles in 1:26:40. Average speed was 16.1 mph; maximum speed was 29.0 mph. Average power was 104 watts; maximum power was 139 watts.
- Friday’s Endurance Miles – “Coffee Shop Ride” workout was 12.34 miles in 0:55:00. Average speed was 13.5 mph; maximum speed was 16.5 mph. Average power was 65 watts; maximum power was 77 watts. A 15-minute standing abdominal strength workout and a floor climbing effort were completed.
- Saturday’s Pre-Event Ride/Short Tempo & Speed Intervals workout was 10.47 miles in 0:42:45. Average speed was 15.0 mph; maximum speed was 20.1 mph. Average power was 86 watts; maximum power was 178 watts.
- Sunday’s 17-Minute Time Trial Warmup workout was 4.36 miles in 0:16:50. Average speed was 15.5 mph; maximum speed was 19.1 mph. Average power was 95 watts; maximum power was 223 watts.
- Sunday’s Virtual Maple Park Time Trial Race Effort was 9.24 miles in 0:29:51. Average speed was 18.6 mph; maximum speed was 22.8 mph. Average power was 145 watts; maximum power was 341 watts.
