Gold & Silver Medals Won at National Senior Games
RACE WEEK REPORT (07/28 – 08/03)
HIGHLIGHTS: The culmination of the last 37 weeks of training was racing time trials on Wednesday and Thursday at National Senior Games in Des Moines, IA. Detailed race results are here. In summary, I was beat by 45 seconds in Wednesday’s 5 kilometer/3.1 mile time trial and earned a silver medal for my second place finish. On Thursday, I won the 10 kilometer/6.2 mile time trial by 12 seconds over the guy that beat me in the previous day’s race. My first place finish earned a gold medal and a national championship in my age-group on a three-wheel recumbent.
All indoor cycling sessions were completed with my recumbent trike on a Kinetic by Kurt Road Machine smart trainer + Rouvy application. No strength workouts were completed.
DETAILS:
- Monday’s Recovery-Endurance Blend workout was 7.83 miles in 0:34:03. Average speed was 13.8 mph; maximum speed was 15.0 mph. Average power was 71 watts; maximum power was 95 watts. (The 45-minute strength routine, a mix of strength machines, free weights, and rope exercises, was cancelled.)
- Tuesday’s Pre-Event Sweet Spot Tempo & Speed workout was 11.26 miles in 0:45:03. Average speed was 15.0 mph; maximum speed was 18.7 mph. Average power was 88 watts; maximum power was 183 watts.
- Wednesday’s 17-Minute Time Trial Warmup was 2.81 miles in 0:14:02. Average speed was 12.0 mph; maximum speed was 15.4 mph. Average power was 98 watts; maximum power was 187 watts.
- Wednesday’s 5 Kilometer/3.1 Mile Time Trial was 3.16 miles in 0:12:00. Average speed was 15.8 mph; maximum speed was 22.7 mph. Average power was 134 watts; maximum power was 346 watts. Result: Silver Medal for 2nd Place Finish.
- Thursday’s 17-Minute Time Trial Warmup was 3.53 miles in 0:16:52. Average speed was 12.5 mph; maximum speed was 16.5 mph. Average power was 100 watts; maximum power was 223 watts. (The 45-minute strength routine, a mix of strength machines, free weights, and rope exercises, was cancelled.)
- Thursday’s 10 Kilometer/6.2 Mile Time Trial was 6.2 miles in 0:23:47. Average speed was 15.6 mph; maximum speed was 25.1 mph. Average power was 124 watts; maximum power was 348 watts. Result: Gold Medal for 1st Place Finish.
- Friday’s Recovery-Endurance Blend workout was 10.23 miles in 0:43:03. Average speed was 14.3 mph; maximum speed was 16.6 mph. Average power was 77 watts; maximum power was 130 watts.
- Saturday’s Foundation Miles Intervals (5 x 6/2 minutes) workout was 14.44 miles in 0:59:06. Average speed was 14.7 mph; maximum speed was 16.7 mph. Average power was 82 watts; maximum power was 130 watts.
- Sunday’s Endurance Miles – “Coffee Shop Ride” workout was 15.64 miles in 1:10:03. Average speed was 13.4 mph; maximum speed was 14.2 mph. Average power was 65 watts; maximum power was 80 watts.
