Ablation Completed; Training To Resume
ABLATION RECOVERY REPORT (08/18 – 08/24)
HIGHLIGHTS: I underwent a cardiac ablation on Monday. I had to be at the hospital at 6:30 AM. The procedure would take roughly three hours to complete. With the precision of one of my training rides, it took 2:23:18 (h:m:s) according to the 3-page, 104-entry Event Log. One catheter was inserted into a vein in my left groin. Two catheters were inserted into separate veins in my right groin. One of the catheters was responsible for the destruction of the wayward heart cells, while the others pinpointed the wayward heart cells and provided navigational support. In total, my heart received 40 lesions (burns) in a 100-second period. These lesions will form scabs over the next several months. Once mature, the scabs will block the faulty heart beat signals. After several hours of recovery, I was released and returned home at roughly 2:15 PM.
