Preparation Phase Completed; 585 Miles Logged

PREPARATION 1.8 REPORT (10/13 – 10/19)

HIGHLIGHTS: I completed the 8-Week Preparation Phase today. This phase started on Monday, August 25th, immediately after the week off the trike following my successful cardiac ablation procedure on Monday, August 18. I logged a total of 584.81 miles. I also recorded sustained maximum speeds of almost 19 mph during this week’s interval workouts.

What’s next is 12 weeks of foundation training ending on Sunday, February 8, 2026. This phase will include the start of the 5-month buildup, in December, to the inaugural triple age-group Guinness Ultracycling World Records attempt on Saturday, April 25. I originally thought I would end December with a single 3-hour rehearsal workout. Then, the rehearsal rides would increase by one hour at the end of January (4 hours), February (5 hours), and March (6 hours). Earlier this week, my coach informed me that she will be scheduling two rehearsal rides each month, two weeks apart.

All indoor cycling sessions were completed with my recumbent trike on a Kinetic by Kurt Road Machine smart trainer + Rouvy application. Three strength resistance workouts were completed.

  • Monday’s Endurance Miles – “Kitchen Sink” workout was 10.19 miles in 0:41:00. Average speed was 14.9 mph; maximum speed was 18.9 mph. Average power was 84 watts; maximum power was 205 watts. A 30-minute strength machine resistance workout was completed.
  • Tuesday’s Recovery Miles with Fast Pedals workout was 7.23 miles in 0:30:00. Average speed was 14.5 mph; maximum speed was 16.6 mph. Average power was 77 watts; maximum power was 133 watts.
  • Wednesday’s Foundation Miles Medley workout was 12.49 miles in 0:51:00. Average speed was 14.7 mph; maximum speed was 16.9 mph. Average power was 80 watts; maximum power was 128 watts. A 30-minute strength machine resistance workout was completed.
  • Thursday was a rest day off the bike.
  • Friday’s Aerobic Tempo Intervals (5 x 3/2 minutes) workout was 11.32 miles in 0:45:00. Average speed was 15.1 mph; maximum speed was 17.1 mph. Average power was 86 watts; maximum power was 146 watts. A 30-minute strength machine resistance workout was completed.
  • Saturday’s Foundation Miles Intervals (3 x 10/5 minutes) workout was 15.87 miles in 1:04:00. Average speed was 14.9 mph; maximum speed was 17.6 mph. Average power was 82 watts; maximum power was 135 watts.
  • Sunday’s Endurance Miles – “Kitchen Sink” workout was 10.85 miles in 0:44:00. Average speed was 14.8 mph; maximum speed was 18.5 mph. Average power was 82 watts; maximum power was 172 watts.
