Reigning NSG Age-Group Trike Champion Dead

FOUNDATION 5.4 TRAINING REPORT (04/21 – 04/27)

HIGHLIGHTS: I just learned that Rodger Reddish, the reigning age-group 3-wheel recumbent champion for the past two National Senior Games (NSG), died on January 15th. Cause of death was not disclosed. Roger was a Colorado Springs, CO, resident, veteran, and stroke survivor. He was the sole trike competitor in my age-group at the 2022 NSG in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and 2023 NSG in Pittsburgh, PA. He was also a multi-gold winning champion and held “more records than any other person who has medals in the world riding a trike.” I was looking forward to meeting him and competing against him in Des Moines at the end of July.

All indoor cycling sessions were completed with my recumbent trike on a Kinetic by Kurt Road Machine smart trainer + Rouvy application. Both strength workouts were completed this week.

DETAILS:

  • Monday’s Recovery-Endurance Blend workout was 11.03 miles in 0:50:05. Average speed was 13.2 mph; maximum speed was 14.9 mph. Average power was 64 watts; maximum power was 90 watts. The 45-minute strength routine, a mix of strength machines and bands, was completed.
  • Tuesday’s Aerobic Tempo/Sweet Spot Blend (3 x 10/5 minutes) workout was 18.79 miles in 1:19:05. Average speed was 14.3 mph; maximum speed was 17.2 mph. Average power was 78 watts; maximum power was 143 watts.
  • Wednesday’s Recovery Miles with Fast Pedals workout was 8.24 miles in 0:37:04. Average speed was 13.3 mph; maximum speed was 15.8 mph. Average power was 66 watts; maximum power was 142 watts.
  • Thursday’s Endurance Miles (3 x 10/5 minutes) workout was 14.41 miles in 1:04:03. Average speed was 13.5 mph; maximum speed was 15.8 mph. Average power was 66 watts; maximum power was 142 watts. The 45-minute strength routine, a mix of strength machines, free weights, and rope exercises, was completed.
  • Friday’s Endurance Miles-“Coffee Shop Ride” workout was 15.14 miles in 1:10:04. Average speed was 13.0 mph; maximum speed was 13.7 mph. Average power was 61 watts; maximum power was 78 watts.
  • Saturday’s Aerobic Tempo/Sweet Spot Blend (3 x 10/5 minutes) workout was 18.84 miles in 1:19:06. Average speed was 14.3 mph; maximum speed was 17.0 mph. Average power was 79 watts; maximum power was 141 watts.
  • Sunday’s Endurance Ladder Intervals (8 x 5/2 minutes) workout was 20.49 miles in 1:28:05. Average speed was 14.0 mph; maximum speed was 15.7 mph. Average power was 73 watts; maximum power was 121 watts.
