Finished Season with 5,288 Miles Logged
PREPARATION 6.3 REPORT (09/07 – 09/13)
HIGHLIGHTS: According to Garmin Connect, my main workout data repository, I logged 5,288.85 miles over the past 365 days. Here are the specific data points:
- Total Activities: 434 (104 strength/330 cycling)
- Total Distance: 5,288.85 miles
- Total Activity Time: 414:59:35 (55:25 strength/353:51:51 cycling)
- Lifetime Annual Cycling Miles Since 2001: 155,742.19 miles
It is now time to take a break. Why do I need a break? In short, continuous year-round training places immense stress on your nervous system, muscles, and mind. Specifically, there are three reasons for taking a break:
- Mental Reset: A break clears mental burnout and restores one’s desire to ride.
- Healing: Chronic fatigue masks deep tiredness. Time off let nagging aches and minor injuries heal.
- Preventing Burnout: Taking a break from structured training prevents overtraining and keeps one fresh for next year.
Based on my training volume during the past season of 5-8 hours per week, it is recommended that I take 1-2 weeks off. This means I will stay completely off the bike. I will continue to monitor my daily resting heart rate, HRV, and weight. But I have a number of household projects that will occupy my time and attention for the next two weeks, rather than focusing on structured training sessions.
All indoor cycling sessions were completed with my recumbent trike on a Kinetic by Kurt Road Machine smart trainer + Rouvy application. No strength workouts with resistance bands were completed.
