World TT Championship Added to Race Schedule – UPDATED
The 6-12-24 Hour World Time Trial Championships (WTTC) are scheduled for November 4-6, 2022, in Borrego Springs, CA, a quiet Southern California resort community. Borrego Springs offers the perfect setting – the stark beauty of the Anza-Borrego Desert set against the majesty of the Coast Range. November weather should be ideal – warm days and cool nights – perfect for racing.
The WTTC course is flat and fast, featuring a main loop of 18.0 miles with 347’ of elevation change and a finishing loop of 4.8 miles with 63’ of elevation change. County road crews prepare the road surface before the race, making repairs and sweeping to insure optimal conditions. Racers compile as many miles as possible in 6, 12, or 24 hours.
I plan to enter Sunday’s 6-hour event. There will be an opportunity to set a new distance world record in my age-group, which is currently only 76.8 miles (13.4 mph) set last year. Early in my racing career, actually the second and third years, I completed solo 100 mile centuries in 5:13:00 (19.21 mph). I’m much fitter and faster now, especially on my recumbent racing bike. The challenge will be incorporating progressively longer and more varied endurance rides at the upper end of my endurance zone during a packed weekend race schedule from May to August.
UPDATED (05/08/22): Officially entered and assigned bib number 670. There are currently three entries in my age group, including the current world distance record holder.
